CANADIAN ASSOCIATION OF SOCIOLOGY OF EDUCATION/CSA (SOCIOLOGY OF EDUCATION CLUSTER) WEBINAR SERIES CALL FOR PROPOSALS
 
Hello education scholars! 
 
Our call for proposals is now open for the 2023-2024 Canadian Association for the Sociology of 
Education and Canadian Sociology Association (CASE/SOE) joint Webinar series. Last year, we 
enjoyed some great discussions and informative presentations on a number of topics related to 
education in Canada. We are delighted to announce that CASE and the CSA Education Research 
Cluster will once again be working together to facilitate this webinar series.  
 
Please see the attached document for important details and possible webinar themes.
 
The submission date for proposals is October 27, 2023.  Please email your 250-word proposal 
submissions to Dr. Alana Butler (alana.butler at queensu.ca) We would appreciate it if you could
circulate this call to your students and colleagues. 
 
Potential Topics and Themes
●      Disability
o   Experiences of disabled faculty and students (e.g. time to completion)
o   Academic ableism; medicalization of the accommodations process
●      Indigeneity
o   Reconciliation, Indigenization, and decolonization in educational spaces
o   Decolonial and/or anti-oppressive theorizing
●      Race and Racism
●      Socio-economic factors/determinants
●      Intersectionality
●      Education data
o   Challenges of accessing education data
o   Innovative ways to collect education data (e.g. student mobility or race/racism)
●      Student mobility (Post-secondary pathways/ Transfer pathways)
o   Exploration and analysis of linear and non-linear pathways to and through post- secondary education
●      Urban education
o   Poverty, educational inequality, and urban inequality
●      The privatization and/or marketization of Canadian education (at all education levels)
●      "Back to normal”- the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on education
●      Theorizing education and educational institutions
o   Theoretical contributions to our understanding of education and educational institutions in Canada
●      Other themes
o   Immigration, forced displacement, and refugee populations
o   Issues in rural education
o   Methodological perspectives, challenges, and advancements in sociology of education research
 
Five sessions: (Fourth Thursdays of the month)
●      Nov 23, 2023; Jan 25, 2024; February 22, 2024; Mar 28, 2024; Apr 25, 2024
●      12 pm – 1:15 pm Eastern Standard Time
 
Session structure
●      One emerging scholar and one established scholar
●      Introduction (5 min); Presentations (20 min each, total of 40 min); Q & A (30 min)
 
Timeline
●      October 27, 2023 (midnight Eastern Time): Deadline for accepting proposal submissions
●      November 6, 2023 (midnight Eastern Time): Send notifications of acceptances
