CASE/CSA (SOCIOLOGY OF EDUCATION CLUSTER) 2023-2024 WEBINAR SERIES

CALL FOR PROPOSALS

Our call for proposals is now open for the 2023-2024 Canadian Association for the Sociology of

Education and Canadian Sociology Association (CASE/SOE) joint Webinar series. Last year, we

enjoyed some great discussions and informative presentations on a number of topics related to

education in Canada. We are delighted to announce that CASE and the CSA Education Research

Cluster will once again be working together to facilitate this webinar series.

The submission date for proposals is October 27, 2023.  Please email your 250-word proposal

submissions to Dr. Alana Butler (alana.butler@queensu.ca) We would appreciate it if you could

circulate this call to your students and colleagues.

    • Academic ableism; medicalization of the accommodations process

    • Reconciliation, Indigenization, and decolonization in educational spaces
    • Decolonial and/or anti-oppressive theorizing

  • Socio-economic factors/determinants

    • Challenges of accessing education data
    • Innovative ways to collect education data (e.g. student mobility or race/racism)
  • Student mobility (Post-secondary pathways/ Transfer pathways)
    • Exploration and analysis of linear and non-linear pathways to and through post- secondary education

    • Poverty, educational inequality, and urban inequality
  • The privatization and/or marketization of Canadian education (at all education levels)

Session structure

  • One emerging scholar and one established scholar
  • Introduction (5 min); Presentations (20 min each, total of 40 min); Q & A (30 min)

  • October 27, 2023 (midnight Eastern Time): Deadline for accepting proposal submissions
  • November 6, 2023 (midnight Eastern Time): Send notifications of acceptances
